The adaptation to the loss of a limb is an extremely difficult process.  During this process the pelvis, spine and head on top of the spine must shift and adapt to a new position.   Muscles compensate, some muscles atrophy from disuse and some muscles hypertrophy from more use.  According to research back and pelvic pain is as common and severe as phantom pain is, in people who have had leg amputations.

Rochelle Doble had her right leg amputated one inch below the knee in 2008 and has been a patient at Sierra Orthopedics since then.  Along with all of the adaptations that she had to endure with the stump and the prosthesis she had developed severe back and pelvic pain.  Fortunately her husband Richard Doble is a doctor of chiropractic and was able to help her with this at his office in Sebastopol.  If you or someone you know is having spine or pelvic pain Richard Doble D.C, can be reached at (707)823-9355
