We are excited to be featuring the:

  • The WalkAide System!
  • Custom Molded Corrective AFOs

Do you work with patients that have been affected by drop foot due to a stroke or MS? Have you heard about the new exciting WalkAide System?  The WalkAide uses functional electrical stimulation to restore typical nerve-to-muscle signals in the leg and foot, effectively lifting the foot at the appropriate time. For appropriate candidates, Walk Aid users would not require use of an AFO.

Amputee Coalition of America

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities and the National Birth Defects Prevention Network have published a new study presenting updated national prevalence estimates for select birth defects from 2004 to 2006. The data shows that more than 2,000 babies are born in the U.S. each year with differences in either arms, legs or both.

“Children born today with limb difference can completely thrive,” said Kendra Calhoun, president & CEO of the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA). “Advancements in prosthetic devices and more open minds in communities across the country open doors for these youth in ways that a decade ago may not have been available.”

Eleven members of the Amputee Coalition of America have completed the first Amputee Action Network Training Course. Representing 11 states, the Lead 11 for 2011 will use the training they received to pass and preserve insurance parity in their states, pass gubernatorial proclamations declaring April as Limb Loss Awareness Month and other issues on the Amputee Coalition’s 2011 Legislative Agenda.

“These 11 people have shown themselves to be proven leaders in their respective states. They are active in our legislative efforts, support groups and in their communities. We are proud to present the first ‘graduates’ of the Amputee Action Network Course,” said Kendra Calhoun, president & CEO of the Amputee Coalition of America.”

The ProsthetiKa container-based workshop is now secured on its cement pad on the premises of Hospital Adventiste in Haiti. We are beginning clinical, fabrication, and training activities. Though this prosthetics and orthotics program is intended to be run and staffed by Haitians, we will be sending volunteer experts to provide training and assistance as long as necessary and appropriate.
